Any Talent in Tanzania?
07 April 2008

The auditions in Dar es Salaam were one of a kind and the four stars who made it through might just shine brightly in the next round…

The pace in Tanzania was definitely dictated by the girls, with three of them and only one guy taking the Golden Tickets!

After a stream of inexcusable and comical acts, the stalemate was broken. The judges applauded the first and only guy to be sent through, although TK advised Godfrey Ndinguru to lose his shaky attitude before the next round.

The three girls who made Tanzania proud, wowing the judges with their melodious tunes, are Linda Mwakalyeke, Leah Mouddy and the diminutive Doreen Aurelian.

Still, Angela gave Linda the classic Boy Scouts warning: “Be prepared,” Doreen was advised to polish her tone, while Leah got a glowing review from TK who said: “This is the best audition we’ll probably see in Tanzania!”

From the outset Scar warned: “If they don’t raise the bar higher in Tanzania, they’ll go home.” With that the judges unapologetically sent a bulk of wannabes on their way!

One of the most watchable characters was Geoffrey Ernest, a music student specialising in vocals who could only irritate the judges with his voice.

Emmanuel Nara lit the stage with his hilarious rhymes as the judges mocked him in a sing-along. Abubakari Mzee added another side-splitting bombshell with his hysterical traditional rapping.

Lebo’s words of encouragement didn’t spur many of the braggers on to victory. As they soon found out, Idols is not about swanking, it’s about having the voice, stage presence and the right attitude for the right altitude.

But with Idols there is always more to enjoy and you won’t be left wondering for long if the Uganda and Zambia auditions can raise the bar any higher. Catch the next two-in-one bumper audition on Sunday 13 April at 17.00(CAT-E) and 19:00(CAT-W).
